When God has you where you don't want to be.

11:09 AM

Have you ever come to a point in your life where you are just not where you want to be but you see no way out of where you are at the present time?

Do you ever struggle with frustration and discontentment?

Do you ever wonder if God has just forgotten about you?

Over the past few months I have struggled with each of these things. It is so easy to look around at other people and compare their life to yours. I do that all the time and, as a result, can be quite miserable and discontent.

But this moment something stopped me in my tracks and really opened my eyes to what I had been doing these past few months.

I was reading in Isaiah 55 and these verses jumped of the page almost like they were written just for me.

"Seek the Lord while He may be found,
Call upon Him while He is near.

Let the wicked forsake his way,
And the unrighteous man his thoughts;
Let him return to the Lord,
And He will have mercy on him;
And to our God,
For He will abundantly pardon.

“For My thoughts are not your thoughts,
Nor are your ways My ways,” says the Lord.

“For as the heavens are higher than the earth,
So are My ways higher than your ways,
And My thoughts than your thoughts."

-Isaiah 55:6-9

I read that and all the sudden it dawned on me that, while I am not where I would like to be in my life at this moment in time, I am exactly where my Savior has me. And not only that-but He has me here for a reason. I am sure that years from now I will be able to look back and see the why but you know even if I do not know why till I am in heaven with Jesus I realize that now I need to learn to be content in the now.

I have been living in the future. And wishing I could change  the past. But right now it is the present-and I will never get these moments back again.

I don't want to be bitter anymore. I don't want to be discontent.

And this morning I was able to surrender that to the Lord. And truly, such freedom there was in just letting Him take it all!

I feel as though a weight has been lifted and now I can focus even better on my boys and being the wife and mama the God has called me to be.

This is one of our latest family pictures :) Elijah and I had just returned from a week long trip to a friends wedding in MN and we were SO happy to see Jason again!! :)

Have you ever had times like that in your life? What has the Lord been teaching you about surrender? I would love to hear about it! :)

  2. Totally been there! I'm there often, actually. I think as stay-at-home mothers, we often view our work as mundane. We don't see BIG results ....we're just cleaning and cooking all day. :) It's easy to fall into the trap of discontentment when we think our work is small. I LOVE the song, "Little is Much" that says:

Does the place you're called to labor
Seem so small and little known?
It is great if God is in it
And He'll not forget His own

Little is much when God is in it
Labor not for wealth or fame.
There's a crown and you can win it
If you go in Jesus' name

    Love those words.... :)

  3. Oh my yes! Even where we are here in the middle, though more toward the end of our seminary journey, I still feel like this. Some days are better than others and sometimes it takes continual surrendering.

You all look so happy - love that little boy's smile!

    1. Isn't it funny how some days are great and then the next it is like you hit a brick wall? Continual surrendering I really like that!

      Blessings!! :)

  4. Thank you for sharing this, Katy. It was so encouraging. Right now I'm struggling with being here and not back in the Ukraine for the camp I worked at again. I'm really beginning to think I made a wrong decision and did not actually hear God, but He has given me some way to be a part of it with crafts.
Thanks for the reminder that His thoughts are not my own!
